Professor Lawrence Sloan is the co-founder of the American Arnis Association (1978) and founder of the Defensive Tactics and Control Techniques (DTACT) System (1978) for law enforcement and Security. Professor Sloan was one of the first students of Professor Remy A. Presas, founder of Modern Arnis (1976-1979). Professor Sloan holds the rank of System Head (5th Dan) of the United States Kenpo Association (USKA) under Robert Trias (1985), and he was titled Kyoshi (Professor) and promoted to 7th Dan under the United Kenpo Karate Systems (UKKS).
Professor Sloan received his first degree blackbelt in Okinawan Goju Ryu (1973) from Sensei Paul Tsamura. He began training law enforcement in 1978, putting on “debugging seminars” and teaching defensive tactics to overcome the wave of violent criminals learning martial arts.
Professor Sloan has trained local, state, and federal agents, security agencies, tribal law enforcement, and security in DTACT and provided personal protection for business executives, politicians, celebrities, and the arguably rich and famous. Professor Sloan has also provided expert witness services for Native American tribes and casinoes.
As a security specialist since 1983, Professor Sloan has worked with security agencies and provided security services to corporations such as Armstrong Tire and Rubber, Swift Packing, UPS, Pella Windows, Barilla USA, and contracted with Federal agencies to protect critical structures for the Union Pacific Railroad, National Animal Disease Labs, TSA recruiting and training, and airline food service companies.
